Peculiar PDF Print E-mail

Hello All,Todd_BW2

After spending some time in prayer I sat down to work on my email and the Lord spoke one word to my heart…Peculiar.  That is just an awesome word…especially when you look up the definition…

Peculiar = unusual, unconventional, unique…meaning to belong exclusively to or identify distinctly with someone or something (Encarta Dictionary)

What is awesome to me is the fact that we “belong to or identify distinctly with” Jesus.  That is not just a positive confession…it is a fact straight from the Bible.  We are referred to as a “peculiar people” twice in the New Testament…

Titus 2:14
14 Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.  KJV
1 Peter 2:9
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: KJV

The Greek word used in these two passages for peculiar carries the same meaning as the one mentioned above…

Peculiar= NT:4041 – that which is one's own, belongs to one's possessions: (Thayer's Greek Lexicon)

The meaning of this word is significant because it lays a foundation for us concerning our role in the earth.  To be a peculiar people in the earth is far more than being “unusual or unconventional.”  We are literally His possession and we are here to be “zealous of good works” and to “show forth the praises of Him.”  I don’t know about you, but that excites me…we are not just here to hang out and hang on until Jesus comes…we have a purpose and a destiny.  Because of His redeeming blood, we have the right and privilege to re-present Him on the earth by our good works and our praises.  We are not working for His love…on the contrary it is just the opposite…we display His love because of His work on the cross!

1 Cor 6:19-20
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your bodyand in your spirit, which are God's. NKJV

As His possession we have the privilege of glorifying God in our bodies…think about that…as we yield ourselves to Him and allow Him to work through us, we glorify Him.  Wow, the more I meditate on that the more it grows on the inside of me.  In this body of flesh…on this earth…I have the ability to not only praise the One True God but to also bring Him glory.

Let’s purpose in our hearts to live as His peculiar people and to bring Him glory with this body of flesh...which is His temple!

I love you all and can’t wait to see you on Sunday,
Todd
