The Father Seeks PDF Print E-mail

Hello All,toddmartin

Here lately I cannot get away from a very familiar passage of scripture…one that is precious to me because it is Jesus speaking and He is revealing the heart of our Father…

John 4:23
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.  NKJV

I have used this passage before in an email to point out the fact that the Father is “seeking” those who will worship Him.  The word used here for “seeking” is the Greek word “zeeteoo” and it means “to seek in order to find.”  As awesome as that is, the thing that He has had me focus on this time is the fact that it is the “Father” that is doing the seeking.  He is God and worthy of adoration, as a matter of fact the angels surround His throne and worship Him day and night…

Rev 4:8
8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
"Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!"  NKJV

But, in John 4:23 Jesus says that “the Father” is seeking those who will worship Him.  The Greek word for worship is “proskuneo” which is a compound word from the words “pros” and “kuneo.” The power of the word “worship” is found when you define these two words…pros means “towards” and kuneo means “to kiss.”  Think about that for a minute…Jesus, God’s Son, is saying that the Father is looking for those who will move “towards” Him “to kiss.”  In layman’s terms Jesus is saying that His Father, and ours, is looking for those who are looking for an intimate relationship with Him.  I believe that is why David is referred to in scripture as a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22).  Not because he was perfect, but because he poured out his heart to God in love and adoration…

Ps 9:1
I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. NKJV

It is this kind of heart’s cry, which I believe, Jesus describes as the “true worshipers” in John 4:23…those who love to “kiss the Father.”  So, with David, let’s proclaim whole hearted devotion to our loving heavenly Father and give Him the worship that He deserves.

I love you all and can’t wait to see you on Sunday,
Todd
